A Healthy Food Picker: 5 MUST Eat Food For Stubborn Food Pickers (Part 1)
Since I was a kid, I was a known food picker…. I have never eaten a single capsicum before 10 years old, and I hardly eat any carrot even until today. Well, don’t get me wrong, I’m not promoting food picking habit here, for kids or adults with this bad habit, I would like to share a few of my favourite food that make me strong and healthy (well…base on all the parameters, I’m strong and healthy..LOLs).
I have found through my own experience and my knowledge that there are 5 foods that are nutritious yet easy to be accepted by any food picker. Besides, I would also like to share some simple suggestion on the preparation of these delicious foods for yourself or your love one.
Fish
Fish is definitely my favourite food, there are so many ways to prepare a nice and delicious fish dish. My all-time favourite is definitely grill fish and steam fish. Normally, for oily fish such as most deep sea fish (Tuna, Salmon…) grill seems to be the best choice, with the natural fat in the fish, you can easily grill a restaurant standard grill salmon. For fresh local fish such as grouper (石斑), ikan merah or ikan bawal, the best choice is steam, be it fresh steam, asam steam or teochew steam.
Fish contains high level of good quality protein for teen growth and building of muscle, good fat which contains high level of Omega 3 for brain and cardio health, and some vitamins such as Vitamin B and Vitamin D.
Avocado
Avocado doesn’t seem likely to be in the list of favourite food for those food pickers like us. But, trust me, avocado sounds weird, looks weird, taste weird (if you don’t know how to prepare it), with a little trick, you can make it one of the favourite foods in your list.
Let’s do some serious science before I talk more on the food part! Avocado is often to be referred as the superfood. Mind you, very few types of food on earth can earn this title. Here are some serious and true facts: 1. It contains 1.4 times of potassium than banana
2. Approximately 68% of fat contain in Avocado come from monounsaturated fat which puts the avocado fat in the same category with Olives.
3. Contains nearly 20 types of vitamins and minerals in significant amount (such as potassium, lutein, B Vitamins, Vitamin K, copper, folic acid, Vitamin E, Vitamin C and so on…
So, how to make this uncommon fruit become one of the most delicious food? Avocado mix extremely well with milk, so much so that it was actually given the nick name of “milk fruit” in chinese.
Simply add some fresh milk or condensed milk(not a good choice from healthy point of view) and ice, together with avocado fruit into a blender, blend until it become smoothie type of drinks, after a few trial and error, you will master the sweetness, texture as well as the taste to your perfectness. It is simple and tasty, I’m sure no food picker will say no to this.
